Calgary’s Real Estate Photographers

Professional photography vs. DIY - What’s the difference?

When it comes to real estate photography, there's a big difference between taking a photo with your phone and hiring a professional capture the shot. You may have looked at the work of a professional real estate photographer and thought: "I can do that!"  But as a real estate agent, you know that professional photos sell homes. Here's a breakdown of what it takes to produce quality real estate photos:

  • Years of work experience. A professional photographer has experience in finding the right settings for any occasion and will know how to frame their shot so that it comes together nicely in post processing.

  • Post processing.  I’ve had clients ask me: “how do you capture bright interiors while properly exposing for windows?”  To achieve this result, we run our captured images through a series of post processing steps which adjusts for color temperature, lighting, tone, blemish removal, and crop.  Then we overlay other exposures on top to mask for the bright windows.  The end product you see below isn’t just one photo, but a series of exposures overlayed to produce the indoor/outdoor effect.

  • Professional camera equipment. Smart phones cameras are wonderful tools but they lack certain features that make them inferior to professional cameras especially in challenging lighting scenarios.   Features like sensor size, noise reduction, low light capabilities, HDR capture are just some of the differences between the two cameras where our professional equipment really stand out.
